A LONG-SERVING officer has joined the beat team in Newton Aycliffe as its new sergeant.

Andy Boyd has stepped into the role as Neighbourhood Police Sergeant for Newton Aycliffe.

The officer has been with Durham Police for 23 years during which time he has spent time working on response, in CID and with neighbourhood teams in Bishop Auckland and Crook.

Sergeant Boyd said: “Until recently I was the Neighbourhood Sergeant at Shildon, a role that I took immense pride in, fostering fantastic relationships in the community in order to problem solve around local issues. “In my spare time, I coach youth rugby at Bishop Auckland Rugby Club, follow Newcastle United Football Club and enjoy spending time with my family.”

He added: “Together with my team, I look forward to getting out into the community and working with partners to tackle the issues that affect you (residents of the area).”
