Vintage display

THE Speakeasy in Chester Street, Bishop Auckland, is transforming itself into a 1940s bar from 3pm to 11pm today as part of Bishop Auckland’s 1940s Weekend. The Smokehouse Railway Street are creating food inspired by the ear for the event and wartime drinks will be available. Tickets are available priced at £5, including two drinks tokens, and £10, including two drinks tokens and food, which will be served until 8pm. Forties style clothing is not essential but encouraged. Safety day

CROOK Community Fire Station, on Peases Way, will hold an open day with a range of activities and displays by the station’s firefighters today from 10am to 3pm.

Garage sale

REFURBISHMENT plans for Bishop Middleham Village Hall will be on display in the venue as part of the Great Parish Garage Sale today. Twenty-three houses are taking part in the event which runs from 10am until 2pm. Maps are available from the Post Office for £1. Refreshments will be on offer in the hall during the event.

Town meeting

THE monthly meeting of Sedgefield Town Council will be held in the Council Offices at 7pm on Monday. It will be followed by a meeting of the policy and resources committee. Members of the public are welcome to attend both meetings.

Band night

WEST Auckland Working Men’s Club will host Big City for an evening of music from Motown to chart-toppers today. Doors open at 7pm and there is a cover charge of £4 on the door.

Textiles talk

SEDGEFIELD Ladies’ Club will meet in Ceddesfeld Hall at 8pm on Tuesday, June 12. Emma Meers will present ‘Textiles and Accessories’ at the meeting.
