FOUR out of five karate club members who went to international contest returned home with trophies.

The martial artists represented the Chikara Dojo Kyokushin Karate Club, in Spennymoor, at the Kyokushin Karate Welsh Championships in Barry, south Wales, recently.

In the junior kata, Kyle Corner placed second, having just missed out on first place by .1 of a point.

In the women’s kata, Lindsay Young placed second.

In the boys ten to 12-years-old category, Kyle Corner placed second, having beaten some much bigger opponents.

And in the women’s lightweight division, Michelle Turnbull placed second.

Club instructor Connor Colledge, who is a lightweight fighter, chose to move up to the middleweight category and claimed first place.

Third Dan Chief Instructor Adam Walker said all were a credit to themselves, their families, community and club and their hard work paid off.
