A HAIR salon handed over its takings to charity after a one-off celebration day held to mark its rebranding.

Evolution, on The Square, in Sedgefield, has undergone a refurbishment and has reopened under the name Elle.

Owner Kimberly Gibson, 23, marked the change-over on Saturday (July 6) with normal working day but gave all the money made to the Ellen Timney Foundation which helps underprivileged and sick children in the area.

“We were looking for a charity and we donate each year to their annual ball,” said Ms Gibson, who inherited the salon after her father’s sudden death four years ago.

She also chose the Sedgefield-based foundation following a conversation with a client who was helped by Ellen Timney, who the charity is named after.

Her husband Tony Timney, 75, said: “We get shocked every time something like this happens. The generosity is outstanding. My wife would have been blown away.”

The salon was renamed Elle to match the letter ‘e’ in its reception mirror which was installed by Ms Gibson’s father.
