JOUSTING knights and fair queens took over a village centre as locals headed back in time to hold their medieval fair.

The 41st annual Sedgefield Fair was organised by Sedgefield Community Association and it took place on Saturday, May 21.

It attracts visitors to the County Durham village from miles around to enjoy all the fun and events.

This year there were knights jousting on the village green and a ducking stool proved popular too.

Lizzie Joyce, 11, of Sedgefield Hardwick Primary School, was picked to be the fair queen who headed a parade through the village.

She was joined by her attendants Hannah Willis and Maddy Hand, both six, at the event split between the village green and Ceddesfeld Hall.

Maxine Robinson, of the association, said: "It was absolutely fantastic. I think it was the best it has ever been.

"The feedback we received on the day from locals and from visitors was very positive.

"There were some people who have been coming to the event for many years who said it was the best they had seen.

"We take over the whole of the village and the weather was nice which added to the whole experience."

The event raises money for the various charity stalls located on the village green and for the Sedgefield Community Association.
