OPENING hours at a town’s library are to increase - despite the cuts.
People in the Malton area will have increased access to the service after a solution was found so that hours can rise while still making savings.
North Yorkshire County Council and Ryedale District Council have teamed up to relocate the TIC within the town’s library.
And it means that instead of being cut, the current library opening hours at Malton will in fact increase from 40 to 46 hours.
District councillor Linda Cowling said: “This is a natural partnership between two services, dedicated to high standards of information provision.
“While both the library service and the TIC will continue to have their own special fields of operation, there are many areas where their skills and services overlap, and the staff look forward to working together to offer an even more comprehensive public provision.
“Through this initiative the TIC is able to offer a six-day-a-week opening to support residents, visitors, local business and the tourism economy and this arrangement also enables the library to stay open for longer.”
