Swaledale Cheese founder's death still a mystery

BODY FOUND: Mandy Reed
A POST-MORTEM examination carried out on the body of a company director found in a neighbour’s garden has failed to explain the cause of her death.
Meanwhile tributes continue to be paid to Mandy Reed, 47, who was described as a generous, kind and fantastic woman.
The Northern Echo reported yesterday how the motherof- two’s body was found at 5pm on Sunday close to her home in Scorton, near Richmond, where she lived with her daughter, Louise.
She was last seen after a night out with family on Saturday and was reported missing at 4.35pm on Sunday.
Last night, police confirmed that a post-mortem examination had been carried out yesterday on Mrs Reed, who founded The Swaledale Cheese Company in 1986 with her late husband, David.
It is expected further tests will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
County and Richmond town councillor Stuart Parsons said: “It is a huge shock. She was a fantastic woman. She was generous, kind, and you could ask her for anything and she would help you.
“She was a very successful businesswoman, and managed to keep The Swaledale Cheese Company going after the death of her husband, taking it from strength to strength.
“It is going to be very difficult for her children, Louise and Sam, and they deserve all the help and support they can get at the moment.
“It is horribly sad and a massive loss to everyone that knew her.”
The company is based on Gallowfields Trading Estate, in Richmond. David Doorbar, chairman of the town’s business and tourism association, said: “Richmond has lost a respected and talented businesswoman.
“Mandy Reed was a shining example of what can be achieved by hard work, skill and determination.
“She was admired within the local business community for successfully developing further the world-class brand of Swaledale Cheese, winning many prestigious awards.”
