BIRDWATCHERS have completed a year-long labour of love to put their area on the map for other twitchers.
Top Birdwatching Sites in Richmondshire and Hambleton is a new booklet which describes 27 sites and walks chosen by local enthusiasts as representing some of the best places in the area to find birds.
For each site details of parking, access and other facilities are given together with a map.
The birds that might be seen are named and advice is given about the best time of year to visit.
The booklet has been put together by members of the RSPB’s Richmnondshire and Hambleton local group.
Group leader Jim Brettell said: "This is the exciting culmination of a year-long project undertaken by the local group and I am delighted with the result.
"We had found from local trips we ran that many people were unaware of the wealth of good places for birding in our area.
"This booklet now makes the information easily available and at a very affordable price."
All proceeds from the booklet’s sale will go to support the work of the RSPB. It is available from local bookshops and tourist information centres for £4 or by mail for £5 (including postage and packing) from Gareth Wainwright, Throstlenest, Caldwell, North Yorkshire, DL11 7QA.
