Help for older drivers

1:13pm Monday 8th March 2010

OLDER motorists who want to improve their driving skills and take the stress out of journeys are being offered help.

Drivers aged 50 and above are being encouraged to attend a free roadshow on Saturday (MARCH 13) at the primary School at Croft-on-Tees.

The event has been organised by North Yorkshire County Council, in partnership with the 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Safety Partnership.

Between 10am and 3pm there will be display stands, opportunities to try a brake reaction tester and have a basic eye check. People will also be offered the chance to apply for a free hour-long refresher drive to be taken at a later date.

Presentations focusing on the older motorist will be held at intervals during the day, the first one is at 10.15am then repeated at 11.45am and 1.30pm.

The session will also provide information and advice for the older driver on topical issues such as eyesight requirements, medication and driving, licensing requirements, road signs, driving at night and how to save money.

Everyone attending will also receive a free copy of the newly launched Older Driver DVD featuring veteran broadcaster Andy Kluz.

There is no need to book a place – just turn up in time for a presentation and to take a look at the stands.
