Former soldier goes straight to the top

FORMER soldier Gary Broom has had an early Christmas present to really boast about in his new career.

He’s beaten 43,000 others to scoop the Employee of the Year award from food and facilities management services provider Sodexo.

He recently joined the company from the Army and works as the chief clerk at the headquarters of Catterick Garrison.

And he was commended for his hard work and commitment above and beyond the call of duty and was rewarded for his significant contribution to the company.

He was not only praised for his part in the smooth running of the Garrison facilities, he has also played a key role in enabling Sodexo to achieve an international quality management accreditation on the site.

Most significantly, since he joined the company, he introduced a new video link system which has enabled families from the Garrison to talk to their loved ones who are serving on operations overseas.

He was presented the award by Sodexo chief executive Aidan Connolly at a ceremony held in London. The ceremony was compared by comedian Dave Spikey.

"Having served in the Army myself for twenty two years, it is great to be able to support the defence community in my new career with Sodexo, especially at a time when so many soldiers from the Garrison are deploying to Afghanistan," said Gary.
