A COMMUNITY group is celebrating the completion of a new green scheme that brightens up the route to a local woodland.

The Church Lane Community Partnership has spent £8,000 improving access to Greystones Community Woodland in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough.

The bulk of the funding came from the Impetus Environmental Trust with Redcar and Cleveland Council's Greater Eston Area Committee making a contribution.

The work, phased over six months, has created a new 225 metre section of surfaced footpath linking to the bridleway, which runs through the woodland, along with the installation of five new benches.

Partnership chair Mannie Cook said: "It is good to be involved in partnership with other groups and the Council to deliver improvements to our local area - it shows what you can achieve by working together."

The cash paid for improvements to two of the entrances, there are welcome signs and bluebells, planted by Grangetown Primary School pupils.

A leaflet, developed by the Partnership and the Council's Countryside Officer Jo Fearey, has been distributed to every primary and secondary pupil in the area and is now available from Grangetown library.
