POLICE are trying to find an elderly couple who spoke to a teenage girl after a sexual assault in York.

West Yorkshire Police said the 14-year-old suffered a serious sexual assault in the disabled toilet at the Tesco Extra in Clifton Moor on a Saturday afternoon in March, but could not confirm the date.

Officers said the offence was not reported either to the police or security at the store at the time, but the victim was visibly distraught following the attack, and was spoken to at the time by an elderly couple.

PC Simon Kingdon, of Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit, said: "We appreciate that the information we have is vague but we are hopeful that this will have stuck in someone’s memory.

"We are interested in speaking not only to the elderly couple who have approached the victim but also anyone else who recalls seeing a visibly distraught white teenage girl in company with an older white teenage boy in this store in March."
