A MAN had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering severe injuries to two fingers in an accident involving a bin lorry in York.
The incident happened at the car park at the Monks Cross Tiles & Bathrooms in Malton Road, Huntington, at just after 1.30pm on Thursday.
A road ambulance, rapid response vehicle and a Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter were called to the scene and the man was flown to Leeds General Infirmary.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment and a reciprocating saw to free the man, whose hand had been trapped in the machinery of the bin lorry.
The injured man was employed by Yorwaste where a spokesman said: "We are currently carrying out an investigation into this incident and are cooperating with the relevant authorities.
"Until this investigation is complete, we cannot say anything further at this time.”
