A MAN had to be rescued from the River Ouse in York on Tuesday night.
Police were called to reports of a man in the river near Skeldergate Bridge at about 9.45pm.
North Yorkshire fire service's York boat crew and a crew from Acomb were sent to the scene.
Attempts were made to remove the man from the river by throwing lines and buoyancy aids, and he was finally helped to safety at 9.57pm.
The man was taken by ambulance to York Hospital for checks but was later discharged, a police spokeswoman said.
