A LARGE amount of jewellery was stolen during a weekend raid of a city centre business.

Two men entered Cavendish Jewellers on Stonegate in York at 7.47pm on Saturday after the store had closed and took jewellery from display cabinets before leaving the shop at 8.20pm.

They entered and left from the direction of Duncombe Place, behind the building.

The first was of average build and height. He wore a dark Puffa-style jacket with a hood and a beanie hat and may have been wearing glasses.

The other man was of medium build, wearing a dark Puffa-style body warmer, dark Nike trainers and a beanie hat.

They were carrying a backpack and possibly two dark holdall bags.

Police are making extensive enquiries, which includes reviewing CCTV footage. Anyone with information should contact 101.
