A THIEF made off with more than £50 worth of supermarket beef joints after threatening to stab a female member of staff.

It happened at the Co-op on Tang Hall Lane in York last Thursday evening when two men entered the store.

One proceeded to load an ASDA carrier bag with beef joints before being confronted by a female staff member in her sixties who picked the bag up from the floor.

The man grabbed it back and and verbally threatened to stab the woman before running out of the store with the meat.

Meanwhile, the second man picked up two bottles of Smirnoff Vodka worth nearly £30 from a box on the shop floor and walked out without paying for them.

CCTV images show the meat thief suspect to be a white man possibly in his twenties with brown hair and was wearing a dark outfit with white sleeves at the time of the offence.

The second man appeared older, with brown thinning hair, was unshaven and was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.
