A MAN had to be freed by firefighters after impaling his thigh through a railing in the early hours of the morning.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Moore Avenue, in Tang Hall, York, at about 4.25am.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire fire service said the man had fallen while climbing a fence.

Crews used hydraulic cutting gear and manpower to free the man from the railing He was then handed to the ambulance service.
