A HOME for the disabled has received a very special visitor – in the shape of the Princess Royal.

Princess Anne visited Alne Hall, the Leonard Cheshire Disability care home at Alne, near York, in her role as patron of global volunteering charity, Lattitude.

She viewed facilities including a computer room and a collection of 100 photographs that celebrate the centenary of Leonard Cheshire’s birth.

Volunteer gardener Martin Wintermeyer showed the Princes around Alne Hall’s sensory garden before Lattitude volunteers were presented with an award.

The Princess also met Greg Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Lattitude; Hugh Fenn, Leonard Cheshire Disability’s executive director; UK Care Services manager Paul Elliot and Flight Lieutenant Paul Taylor from nearby RAF Linton on Ouse.

Before leaving the service, HRH was presented with a gift and flowers from resident Philip Smith and Deborah Foreman.

Greg Clark said afterwards: “It’s wonderful to link up with a charity like Leonard Cheshire Disability and celebrate volunteering with our patron.”

And Hugh Fenn added: “We’re delighted to able to welcome Her Royal Highness to Alne Hall, which has such special links with the local air base and our founder Leonard Cheshire”
