PLANS to re-establish the Turkish baths in Harrogate as a renowned heritage spa and wellness destination are to be considered.

The local borough council will discuss the proposals set out in their five-year Turkish Baths Development Strategy next week.

Features of the plans include the creation of a wet spa and thermal space, traditional Hammam rub down area and heritage nail bar.

Other improvements would be made to the changing facilities and relaxation services, as well as the website, and its own label range of products would be created.

Plans will also assess the possibility of expanding the Turkish baths to create a holistic spa and wellness centre.

Cabinet member for culture Cllr Stanley Lumley, said: “There is a growing demand for spa and wellness experiences and it is important that we look at the current industry trends and evolve so that we stay one step ahead of the competition.”

Baths manager Chris Mason added: “The Turkish Baths Development Strategy looks at how we can continue to provide a unique experience underpinned by our fantastic heritage, whilst helping to build the Harrogate brand on both the national and international stage.”
