AN author has secured a national storytelling award after impressing judges with his action-packed archaeological thriller.

David Leadbeater, from York, triumphed at the inaugural UK Kindle Storyteller Award for his novel The Relic Hunters. Not only does this mean a £20,000 cash prize but he will receive a dedicated marketing campaign, mentoring and the chance to have his book translated for readers around the world.

Mr Leadbeater’s book was among six titles shortlisted from thousands of entries. He was crowned winner by model and judge Lily Cole at a ceremony at the Ned in London on Tuesday.

The author, who has written 23 other Kindle International Bestsellers, described winning the award as a life-changing experience, adding: “It’s an honour to be chosen as the winner and truly wonderful to have The Relic Hunters selected from such a strong shortlist. It is thanks to my readers that I have won this prize and for that I am truly thankful. I am excited for the next chapter in my storytelling career.”
