TWO people were taken to hospital after their car left the road and hit a telegraph pole in the early hours of the morning.

The 30-year-old man and 28-year-old woman, both from the York area, were injured when the Renault Clio they were travelling in hit a telegraph pole and a tree on Ox Carr Lane at Strensall, north of York.

It happened at around 2am this morning (Tuesday, July 25) and police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling through Strensall at the time and saw a blue Renault Clio leave the road at Ox Carr Lane after its junction with Moor Lane, or saw the Clio travelling in the direction of Strensall from Strensall Common.

The car's occupants both remain in hospital in what police describe as a serious condition.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the casualties, examine the scene and to recover the vehicle. It reopened shortly after 9am.

Anyone with any information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for TC Martin Hayes of the Tadcaster Roads Policing Group.
