ICONIC confectioner Terry's is celebrating its 250th anniversary with a series of events in York.

The popular brand can trace its origins in the city right back to 1767 and to celebrate the landmark birthday, York’s Chocolate Story on King's Square will be hosting a series of special themed tours and activities over the summer holidays, including the launch of a new guided city walk.

Visitors will be able to discover the unique stories of chocolate workers and learn how the railways allowed the confectionary empire to grow.

Guests will also be able to create their very own chocolate lollies inspired by the classic Chocolate Orange, while a team of expert chocolatiers will be recreating classic Terry’s flavours from the past.

In addition, guests will have the chance to go on a new Terry’s City Walk that will take visitors around the city, looking at key buildings and areas connected to the brand.

Guides will be telling tales that have come straight from the workers themselves, while offering a series of exclusive samples connected to the company.

General manager Andy Turner said: “For 250 years, Terry’s have been a key part of York’s history.

"At York’s Chocolate Story, we are keen to keep this history alive and celebrate the city’s connection with chocolate.”

The guided walks will run every Thursday and Sunday from July 30 until September 3 at 1pm and 4pm, costing £4.95 per person.
