Country legend Johnny ‘Man in Black’ Cash is born again thanks to one of the world’s most acclaimed tribute acts... and performing in the region later this month

THE spirit of the Man in Black is alive and ‘kicking like a mule’ with an outstanding celebration of the iconic legend by the Carter/Cash endorsed Johnny Cash Roadshow.

The Johnny Cash Roadshow comes to the Grand Opera House York on Friday, July 21.

This is gold standard, fire-cracking entertainment from the first note, delivering an inspired set of cherished numbers with impeccable rhythmic pace. A dynamic performance from an unparalleled group of highly talented musicians and a guaranteed treat for country music lovers and die hard Cash fans alike.

The stage lights up with a colourful explosion of energy, against a striking backdrop of classic screen imagery of the ‘real deal’. Clive John, captures the essence of Cash with exceptional style and confidence. His deep, distinctive vocals are spot on, evoking pure country magic with Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues and A Thing Called Love.

Charismatic duets with Amanda Stone (June Carter) are superb. Renditions of Jackson and Long Legged Guitar Pickin’ Man , encapsulate the tender charm and uplifting humour shared by the late enigmatic pair. The music doesn’t miss a beat as the set glides seamlessly along, evoking a timeless quality of a golden era with fresh contemporary flair.

Martin Bentley (bass) is in a league of his own and Nick Davis (guitars) and Darren Bazzoni (drums) first class. On selected shows backing vocals by the Louise Ann Masters and Debbie Watt add sparkle and glamour as the Carter Sisters, and a new edition to the line-up making the show bigger and better is the talented Steve Bland and James Doherty performing backing vocals, guitar and keyboard as well as JC Horns complimenting the line up with equally impressive versatility.

Despite the band’s professional portfolio and slick stage presence they reach a direct intimacy with audiences of all ages that other performers can’t quite pull off. This is more than just a show, it’s a heart-warming story played out with genuine passion and a wonderful celebration of one of world’s greatest known artists. Caitlin Crowell, the granddaughter of Johnny Cash, says: "I had the pleasure to see the Johnny Cash Roadshow/Spirit Band just this past weekend in Manchester. As a member of this family, the Cash Family, I was in awe of how incredible the performances were. Clive and his June capture my Grandfather and Grandmother JUST as they were in this world they put a mark in. And not just the focus of the show, being those two talents, but the rest of the crew, absolutely brilliant. I have never seen a stand-up bass spun around that fast, just to predict the perfect punctuation for landing! And don't get me started on the electric and the drums! Amazing!

"I sincerely believe that there is an art form to "tributing", but this was absolutely authentic to the point where it felt as if it wasn't a tribute, per say, it was a rock-n-roll gig! given by some sincere rock-n-rollers! I am a fan!
