THE University of York’s Central Hall is getting a £700,000 overhaul and work has already started at the Heslington West campus.
The engineering firm Britcon, based in Scunthorpe, has been handed the contract for the iconic, modernistic building as part of a programme of refurbishment works planned for the university.
Work has already started on the first stage of the 10-week refurbishment. All the windows will be replaced with curtain walling to improve the energy efficiency of the building and electrics and mechanics will be upgraded.
Head of estates development Gary Ashmore said: “The Central Hall refurbishment is part of our ongoing commitment to significant investment in providing high quality teaching and learning environments across our campus.
