A DISTRAUGHT pet owner is offering a £1,000 reward to anyone with information about the person who shot and killed her cat.

Caroline Barratt’s cat Georgie was found at the family home in Lime Avenue, York, on April 29 bleeding, vomiting and foaming at the mouth.

The mother-of-two initially thought Georgie had been in a fight because of a wound on her leg, but it transpired her injuries had come from a air gun pellet wound when she was taken to the vet.

She died on Sunday, April 30 from her injuries.

“We’re offering a significant reward for any information leading to a conviction,” Mrs Barratt said.

“The number for the RSPCA to report any information is 0300 123 4999 and the police is 101. The Cat Protection number is also 01904 760356.”

Mrs Barratt said the community have supported her in the aftermath of the horrifying incident after she handed out leaflets to her neighbours, warning them about what happened.

She added: “You wouldn’t believe how many people have been in touch with offers of support and donations to the York Cat Protection.

“It makes you realise that while the impact of a single cruel action is huge, we are indeed surrounded by so many wonderful and kind people in our communities and in this lovely city.”

Mrs Barratt is also urging pet owners to sign the Cats Protection petition asking for England and Wales to follow Ireland and Scotland in enforcing licensing for air gun owners. To sign up go to cats.org.uk/airgunspetition
