POLICE are hunting a man who attacked a young teenager sitting on a bus.

North Yorkshire Police said the boy, aged 13, was travelling from York city centre towards Acomb on the number 1 service on Monday on Monday but details of the attack have only just been released.

A spokeswoman said the boy was sitting at the front of the top deck at about 4pm, and the bus had just left the Blossom Street stop when a man aged in his fifties sat next to him.

She said: “The man is believed to have assaulted the boy by grabbing his face and elbowing him in the chin, causing the boy to fall backwards. The man then left the bus at the Front Street bus stop in Acomb.

“The 13-year-old victim did not suffer any serious injuries, but has been left shaken by the incident.”

The man was described as being of large build with a bald head and grey hair to the sides, wearing a grey round neck jumper and carrying a white carrier bag.

The spokeswoman said one man challenged the attacker following the incident, and police want to speak to anyone who was on the bus or has information which could help the investigation.

Anyone with information should phone 101, select option two, and ask for PC 1742 Pauline Law or email pauline.law@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
