THE FAMILY of a girl who was found with multiple stab wounds in a playing field in York have released a video of messages from around the world.

In a remarkable show of compassion, messages of support for the tragic seven-year-old’s family have come from as far as New Zealand and Australia.

Katie was found with life threatening injuries in a field off Alness Drive, Woodthorpe, on January 9 and died later in York Hospital.

The weeks since her death have seen an outpouring of grief from the community and people from around the globe have reached out to the youngster’s parents, Alison and Paul.

The messages were gathered by Kat Scurr, a friend of the family, and compiled in a special video. Postcards with words of support can be seen held in front of landmarks from far flung locations.

One card from Orlando, Florida, reads: “Katie, our love for you is so strong here in Orlando, Florida.”

And another, from Alabama, said: “Katie, our love for you is so big it’s reached Alabama.”

Mrs Scurr, who made the video after being sent the messages by a friend, said: “The family really like it and it’s really positive.

“It was something I wanted to do to help them grieve and give them a beautiful reminder of Katie.

Katie was found with severe injuries in the Woodthorpe area of the city on January 9, and a 15-year-old girl has been charged with her murder and possession of a Stanley knife.
