WORK on restoring York’s historic Red Tower to its former glory is due to start shortly.
The building on Foss Islands Road dates back to 1490, and has been signed from City of York Council on a 30-year lease by Red Tower York, a social enterprise Community Interest Company.
Planning permission and Scheduled Monument Consent have both been granted for a restoration project, and essential utilities such as electricity, water, sewerage and telecommunications are set to be installed next month, said chairman Barry Beckwith.
