ONE of the region’s great seats of learning is forging greater links with one of its counterparts in China.

The University of York is about to sign a student exchange agreement with Peking University.

The agreement between the two universities will be finalised this week during a visit to China by York’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Koen Lamberts.

The programme will see five undergraduate students from York studying in Peking for a year, with both undergraduate and postgraduate students from Peking returning to study at York.

A spokesman said York had important research collaborations with Peking, including one on atmospheric pollution, led by Professor Ally Lewis at York.

Professor Lamberts will also meet officials from the China Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and he will attend a meeting of the UK Russell Group with China’s elite C9 universities in Shanghai.

There are nearly 6,500 York graduates living in China.
