BRITISH astronaut Tim Peake will be touching down in North Yorkshire next month.

He spent just over six months living and working on the International Space Station after launching from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last December.

He is about to embark on a post-flight tour of the UK and will be at the University of York’s Central Hall on November 5.

He is attending the university as part of the UK Space Agency’s Schools Conferences, celebrating the work of students inspired by his mission.

Students will present their work to Tim through talks and exhibitions, as well as experts from the UK Space Agency, the European Space Agency and partner organisations.

Following the conference, the astronaut will give a public talk at 7pm and take part in a question-and-answer session.

Tickets for the event, which are free, will be made available at 8am on October 12 via york.ac.uk/news-and-events/events/tim-peake/

Tim said: “I’ve been extremely touched by the support of the British public before, during and after my mission to the ISS and I hope that my post-flight tour and public events will allow me to thank as many of those people as possible.”

The University’s Dean of Faculty for the Sciences, Professor Brian Fulton, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Tim to York. His mission to the International Space Station has inspired children and adults alike and we are delighted that the public will be able to join us to hear first-hand about his experiences.”
