POLICE divers are set to scour a river as part of a major search for a 20-year-old film and television production student.

Concerns are mounting for University of York undergraduate Ethan Peters, who was last seen in the city centre, at around 11.55pm on Sunday.

North Yorkshire Police is reviewing CCTV around the Coney Street area, while a helicopter has been brought in to check the are surrounding the centre centre and an underwater search team to cover a section of the River Foss, close to Clifford's Tower.

Police described Mr Peters as slim, 175cms tall and has dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing glasses, jeans or chinos, a black jacket and a navy blue polo shirt.

North Yorkshire Police inspector Martin Metcalfe, who is based in York, said: "Ethan has not been seen since Sunday and his disappearance is completely out of character.

"We're working closely with his family and providing support to them during this difficult time.

"We’re also continuing to appeal for the public’s help are keeping an open mind with regards to the investigation.

"I’d like to reiterate our appeal for information today, it’s vital that anyone who thinks they may have seen Ethan since Sunday or has any other information contacts us immediately.”

A statement from the university said: "Ethan is in his third year studying film and television production and is a popular member of Goodricke College and the wider university community.

"We are providing appropriate support to his friends and are liaising with the police who are in contact with his family.”
