THE changing fortune of one of the finest Baroque houses in the North is being told through an exhibition of photography, maps and local memories.

As part of Beningbrough Hall’s 300th anniversary, a selection of images from the National Trust’s archives and stories shared by residents and others who have a connection to the Georgian mansion between Thirsk and York, are being displayed to give an insight into the hall’s bygone days.

It also features historic estates catalogues, including photographs of local buildings along with descriptions of the estate, and photographs captured during the hall’s refurbishment in different eras.

Caroline Hill, house and collections manager at Beningbrough Hall, said: “It’s a very special time to be at Beningbrough, as well as the 300th anniversary of the completion of the house, it is also 100 years since the major break up of the estate in 1916.

“These anniversaries have provided a wonderful opportunity to revisit and celebrate some of Beningbrough’s stories and marvel at how Beningbrough has survived such changing fortunes.”

The display will be at the hall until October 23. For details, call 01904 472027.
