FIREFIGHTERS in North Yorkshire were called to put out shoes and a scarf on fire.

"Two crews from Scarborough have been called to shoes and a scarf on fire in a semi detached residential property," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue on Friday night.

"Fire damage was caused to the shoes, scarf a wardrobe and the surrounding carpet. The occupier extinguished the fire using buckets of water.

"Our crews used a thermal imaging camera for inspection only. Smoke detectors were fitted and activated. The cause was deliberate."
