POLICE have released an e-fit of a man wanted in connection with a “despicable” attempted robbery.

The incident happened at a house in the St Benedict Road area of York when a scruffy man entered, threatened the vulnerable woman occupant and demanded money.

However the woman was able to call for help and the man fled empty-handed.

The man was described as having a dirty face, aged in his 30s, 5ft 6ins tall with a moustache and scruffy beard. He was wearing a long-sleeved black hooded jacket, trousers and dark trainers with white soles.

The incident happened at 8.50pm last Sunday and police are now asking for the public’s help in tracking the man down.

Detective Constable Elaine Arnott said: "Whilst the victim was left physically unhurt she remains in a state of shock. I am determined to identify the man responsible for this despicable yet isolated incident."

She added: "I remind everyone to be extra vigilant in the summer months and to keep windows and doors locked where possible.”

Anyone with information should ring 101, select option two and ask to speak to York Serious Crime Team.
