SOME of the rarest bikes in the country will be taking to the road this weekend – for the Golden Era vintage motorcycle run.

For the eighth year in a row the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, near York, will host the event on Sunday, July 24.

Organised by the North East Vintage Motorcycle Club, the evocative gathering comprises vintage and veteran machines which all pre-date 1931.

In fact, of the 55 entries, 14 machines are 100 years old or more, with the earliest example being a 1910 Douglas Model C.

The once famous Yorkshire make of Phelon and Moore is represented by a rare 465cc example from 1912.

Another Yorkshire manufacturer, Scott is represented by three 1929 Flying Squirrels and a 1930 Super Squirrel.

The entries will gather at the museum in the morning before departure for the nostalgic countryside run, returning from noon for public display.
