They ran, swam, cycled, marched and kayaked across North Yorkshire in the 15-leg relay race known as Race the Sun.

More than 600 soldiers from all over the UK took part in the tough race, which began at first light at Imphal Barracks in York.

The 210-kilometre course encompassed Kilburn, Sutton Bank, Dalby Forest, the North Yorkshire Moors and Castle Howard.

“This year the event was as competitive as ever, it was very tightly contested with everyone really entering into the spirit of things.

“We are really thankful to all the landowners who have allowed Race The Sun to take place.”

Altogether some 610 took part in the competition, which is now in its 27th year, with the help of 250 members support staff.
