A TEENAGER who went for a walk after falling out with her friends has been rescued after falling 150ft down a cliff.

The 17-year-old, from York, fell near Chimney Hole, Filey, North Yorkshire, which three other girls have fallen from in the last 13 years.

The girl, who suffered head and leg injuries, spent four hours at the foot of the cliffs before being rescued by an RNLI lifeboat crew.

She was among a group of York teenagers staying at the Blue Dolphin holiday park at Filey.

RNLI spokesman John Ward said: “She had a bit of a fall out with friends and went for a walk to cool off. It was pitch black and there was no moon. The edge of the cliff is difficult to make out at the best of times.”

The girl later told coastguards she fell about 11pm on Friday (April 8), which was around the time her friends also reported her missing to police.

Officers had to narrow down the stretch of coastline where she might be, to enable lifeboats to conduct an effective search in darkness and at high water.

Lifeboatmen rescued the girl by stretcher and took her to an ambulance at Scarborough Harbour.

Mr Ward said: “She was so cold after being there for four hours she was barely able to speak.

“This was a challenging search and quite a difficult rescue for both crews to undertake, given the conditions."

The incident came a year after a 15-year-old girl fell from the cliffs and suffered head injuries. In 2005, a six-year-old girl escaped with bumps and bruises after plunging 150ft from the same area and in 2003

A a 16-year-old-girl from Peterlee fell to her death near the same site in 2003.
