A PEACEFUL demonstration is due to take place on Valentine’s Day, to call for an end to violence against women.

On Sunday, February 14 a rally will take place at Harrogate Cenotaph as part of the One Billion Rising global movement.

The international movement was motivated by the UN statistic that shows one in three, or one billion women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime and events are taking place in cities and towns across the UK and many other countries. Last year people in more than 200 countries took part in One Billion Rising events on February 14.

The aim is to also raise awareness of North Yorkshire’s Independent Domestic Abuse Service (IDAS), which is supporting the event along with Harrogate Quakers.
