CHILDREN’S charity Action Medical Research is calling for riders to sign up now to this summer’s York 100 cycling challenge.

The event on August 14 offers two options - a classic 65-mile route or a more challenging champion option, which covers 100 miles.

The route starts at the University of York, passes through the Vale of York and the Yorkshire Wolds and skirts by Castle Howard and the Howardian Hills.

The ride is supported by Welcome to Yorkshire which included it in a series of summer cycling sportives last year, inspired by 2014’s Grand Depart of the Tour de France.

Entry is £38 and riders will be raising money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children – in 2015, almost 5,000 riders helped to raise a total of £286,000.
