AN advert for a chocolate bar ranked as the UK's second best is set to be recreated to mark the treat's 40th anniversary.

The retro sign for Yorkie bars, which was displayed beside the East Coast Mainline outside York Station until the early 1990s, will be recreated and displayed in the city's King's Square, from February 13 to 21.

The billboard sign read: "Welcome to YORK(IE) – Where the Men are Hunky and the Chocolate’s Chunky."

The bar, produced at the Nestle plant in York, was created in 1976 to take on brands such as Cadbury’s Dairy Milk and provide a chunkier alternative to the slimmed down Dairy Milk bars.

A spokesman for tourist attraction York's Chocolate Story, which is organising the display, said: "I used to look out for the Yorkie sign from the train. When I saw it, I knew I was home.

"When we reached out to find out more on social media we were inundated with comments from people who were keen to share their fond memories of the sign."

Last year, Yorkie overcame competition from Mars, Wispa and Toffee Crisp to be ranked as the UK's second best chocolate bar behind Galaxy Ripple by Metro newspapers.
