AN attraction which brings to life the ghoulish history of York is preparing to create the longest line of carved pumpkins the world has ever seen.

York Dungeon is preparing to embark on a world record bid on Saturday, October 17 for Halloween, by encouraging visitors and local businesses by bringing along a carved pumpkin to its venue.

It is hoping to get 1,511 people to add their own carved pumpkin to the winning line. The record currently stands at 1,510 and was achieved in the United States at a “pumpkin glow” event in Irvine, California. All pumpkins must be carved into traditional Halloween Jack O’Lantern designs with eyes, nose, mouth and eyebrows to be counted.

People are also encouraged to dress up for the occasion.

Helen Douglas, general manager at The York Dungeon, said: “It will be a sight to remember once the pumpkins are all lit up along the street and it would be fitting for us to break this world record, as after all, we are the home of Halloween.”

Participants taking part in the world record bid can take one free child per paying adult into the attraction on the day.
