A MAN has appeared in court, charged with robbery after taking shoes from schoolgirls.

Daryl Kwiatkowski, 23, is facing two charges of robbery involving girls in York as they made their way to and from school.

He is accused of stealing a pair of shoes from a 15-year-old girl in Nether Poppleton, on the outskirts of York, in September, 2014.

The teenager was pushed to the ground from behind and robbed of her shoes and socks whilst walking home.

He has also been charged in relation to a second incident on Friday, June 19 this year, in the Acomb area of York, when a ten-year-old girl on her way to school was approached by a man who stole her shoes.

Mr Kwiatkowski, from Jute Road, York, was arrested by police in York in connection with the theft of a pair of pink, children’s Adidas boots from outside a property in York on September 1. Officers were called to reports of the theft and questioned Mr Kwiatkowski, who was arrested and charged with the theft the same day.

He appeared before York and Selby Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to the theft in Tostig Avenue.

No pleas were entered over the two robbery charges, and he was remanded in custody to appear before York Crown Court later this month.
