THE team behind the hugely successful Yorkshire Marathon have revealed plans for a major new running event.

The new Plusnet Yorkshire 10 Mile will be held alongside the marathon, which is already a sell-out and will be held on October 11 this year.

Starting and finishing at the University of York, the 10 Mile will get underway immediately after the marathon and take in a section of the 26.2 mile course.

The new event is widely expected to be hugely popular and entrants will get to enjoy the support of the large crowds that have been a feature of the marathon since its launch in 2013.

Spokesman Charlie Tatman said: “There is always a fantastic atmosphere on marathon race day and the introduction of a 10 mile run gives more people the opportunity to be involved.

“The new event offers the convenience of a shorter distance combined with the large crowds and extra buzz associated with such a high-profile marathon.”

The news of the event was announced by TV presenter Harry Gration, himself an enthusiastic runner.

Entrants will be able to raise money for a good cause of their own choosing or one of the event’s partner charities.

They include the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support, Martin House Children’s Hospice, The Haven breast cancer support centres, CLIC Sargent, Candlelighters, St Leonard’s Hospice and Sue Ryder.
