POLICE were called to deal with a drunk man who stole ice cream from a van at Great Yorkshire Show this morning.

Thee man was ordered to pay £60 to cover the cost of damage to the ice cream van's stock.

Officers were called by security at the Harrogate showground at around 5am on Thursday morning.

Sergeant Paul Cording, from North Yorkshire Police's road policing unit, tweeted: "Returning to @greatyorkshow drunk at 5am & taking ice cream from a van is not clever.

"Dealt with by us & now evicted from the site by staff."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police added: "We were called by security staff to the showground at about 5am this morning, after a group of men broke into an ice cream van, and removed and discarded ice cream and flakes.

"Officers attended and one of the men was issued with a community resolution disposal, requiring him to pay back £60 worth of damage to stock."
