A MYSTERY cyclist who has repeatedly refused to reveal his identity after being stopped for cycling on a pavement is to go on trial.

The 54-year-old man was allegedly caught riding on the pavement near shops in the Acomb area of York by police community support officers at 3pm on June 30, and offered advice at the scene.

When he refused to give his details and would not accept a fixed penalty notice, police officers were called to assist, and he further refused to give his name or any details.

The cyclist was then arrested and taken into custody, and as he continued to refuse to give his details he was held overnight.

When he appeared before York Magistrates' Court on July 1, it is understood he told the court he had legally changed his name to "I Am That I Am", and refused to give any further details.

He was released on bail to appear for a trial over the alleged cycling offence on September 7.
