THE DAUGHTER of a woman suffering from a form of bone marrow cancer has organised a series of fundraising events.

Niki Scarce, 30, is hosting a charity evening in York on Saturday (June 27) after her mother was diagnosed with myeloma, a form of cancer which arises from white blood cells created in the bone marrow.

The fundraising event will take place at The Swan on Bishopthorpe Road, York on 27 June 2015 and will involve a raffle with prizes from businesses including Shh Hair & Beauty, Café No 8 Bistro, Jojo Maman Bebe and the Jorvik Viking Centre.

There will also be a barbecue, face painting, a bake sale and fun games including a no-hands jelly-eating contest and a pub quiz.

All the funds will go to Myeloma UK, the only UK charity focused on the discovery, development and access to new effective treatments for Myeloma.

Niki, who formerly lived in Easingwold and is now based in York, said: “I am hosting a charity raffle evening to raise vital funds for a charity that is very, very close to mine and my family’s hearts.

“Like a lot of people, I had never heard of myeloma my mum was diagnosed earlier this year. Myeloma is a cancer arising from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow and, as it stands, Myeloma remains incurable.”

On August 30, Niki will be embarking on a Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge with friends, which they intend to complete in fancy dress.
