A LARGE-scale search for an 84-year-old man has been called off following the discovery of a body.
Uniformed officers, supported by search and rescue team members and a police helicopter, had been scouring the outskirts of York in the effort to locate John Symington.
The Scotsman, from Dundee, was reported missing at 5.24pm on Wednesday after getting off a coach at the Breezy Knees Nurseries in Warthill, near Stockton-on-the-Forest, earlier that afternoon.
However the body of a man was located in a wooded area about 400 metres from the nurseries at around 1pm today, June 4.
Mr Symington’s family have been informed about the discovery, although formal identification has yet to take place.
Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death which has been reported to the coroner.
