AN elderly woman has died in hospital, days after she was badly hurt in a road smash.
The 88-year-old was the front seat passenger in a Skoda Fabia involved in a collision with a Ford C-Max on the A166 at Gate Helmsley, near York, last Thursday, April 9.
She was taken to York Hospital with very serious injuries and later transferred to Leeds general, where she has now died.
The two other occupants of the Skoda Fabia, a woman and a boy, suffered minor injuries and were also taken to York Hospital but were discharged later that same day.
The road remained closed for six hours while officers investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision, to get in touch.
Contact 101, select option two and ask for Traffic Constable Gemma Wood or Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson or email Julian.pearson@northyorkshire.police.uk.
