A SPECTACULAR “reboot” of Norse mythology will form the climax of this year’s Jorvik Viking Festival.

The week-long festival gets underway in York on February 14 and will end on February 22 with an epic confrontation on the Eye of York.

It will feature a cast of warriors, giants and gods bringing the Norse legends to life, exploring the creation of the Viking world and the rise of the gods and their “first battle.”

“We are following Hollywood’s lead and rebooting the legends, exploring the earliest origins of Viking lore,” said festival director Danielle Daglan.

“This isn’t just the story of the world being created, but the tale of the first ever Viking battle, with a host of new characters from Norse mythology alongside our old favourites.”

Details of the event itself are being kept firmly under wraps, but music and blazing pyrotechnics will add to the atmosphere for the family-friendly evening event.

Tickets for the finale event cost £12 for adults, and £9.50 for concessions, with family-of-four tickets available for £36 or £45 for a family of five.

They can be booked online at jorvik-viking-festival.co.uk Those wishing to attend are advised to book early, as the event often sells out in advance with no tickets available on the day itself.
