BOUNCING bunnies were hopping to victory at the 93rd Rabbit Show Jumping Grand Prix this weekend.

The largest event in the small pet calendar, the Burgess Premier Small animal Show at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate, took place this weekend.

The highlight of the weekend is the Rabbit Show Jumping, but more than 3,000 cavies, chinchillas, gerbils, hamsters, mice, rabbits and rats were competing for the title of Best in Show, watched by thousands of visitors.

The Rabbit Show Jumping Grand Prix saw Sweden's finest rabbit jumpers return to hop over 12 hurdles up to one metre in height during a timed display of agility unique to the show.

Stuart Smith, chairman of the BSLS committee, said: "This year's event is a celebration not to be missed for small animal lovers.

“The show's continuing success is thanks to all the fanciers, young and old, who over the show's history have come together to compete for the ultimate honour of Best in Show.

“It's the longest running and biggest Small Animal Show in the UK and this year's event has featured yet more new attractions as its popularity continues to grow almost a century since its launch.”

Alongside the Rabbit Jumping Grand Prix there were other activities to entertain the crowds visiting the showcase area at the show, which attracted a host of small animal events, talks and interactive sessions for youngsters and enthusiasts.

Richard Rockett, at Burgess Pet Care, added: "We are proud to be part of the ongoing success of this spectacular show and are looking forward to making history as we celebrate 93 successful years.

“As a company passionate about pets, we have pledged to help build on this success and honour the show in style."
